22-18-14-6 IVF #6

So on to Round #6 IVF with Donor Egg

After some deliberation and soul searching. Mike & I decided to try another route. Lets take my old eggs out of the equation and try a donor. Before we were able to start, we had to attend a meeting with a psychologist. Once that was completed and we answered all her questions to her liking we were able to begin the process.  We were sent 8 choices who closely resembled me. We were given: blood type, eye color, hair color, height, weight, education, previous donations if any, and any number of their own children if any, occupation, and hobbies. This was all anonymous. We ranked them in order of how we liked them. We based them first on successful previous donations/children of their own, height, and then any remaining categories. We were essentially looking for fertile myrtle. Our first choice didn't want to start to the process until after September when her 4 kids had already started school. We didn't want to wait that long and went on to our next choice. She agreed and the process started right away. Woo! Meds were given to both of us. Egg retrieval was done 8/14/13 and they retrieved 22 eggs. Those 22 eggs became 18 as they removed the immature eggs from the mix. The 18 were then fertilized thanks to the hubs and ICSI (take the best sperm and directly inject it into egg) and then there were 14. Of those 14 we were down to 6.  Transfer of 2 occurred 8/19/2013.

When we went in prior to transfer to get dressed and have our talk with the embryologist, she gave us the pictures of the two we were transferring as well as a family photo of all the blast to be frozen. She also asked us if we were sure we wanted to transfer 2 and not just 1. Um, yeah, pretty positive we want two. If both work, then we are happy. If we only get one out of the deal that is fine too. :-)

2 Blasts that were transferred. (The arrow shows where the blast is "hatching")

Family Pictures (Frozen Blasts)

Once dressed, before going for the procedure, our IVF nurse, who has been with us every step of the way, came in and took our picture. She said this is going to work and therefore we need to document it!

I'm the one all doped up. Mike looks like he has been taking the dopey drugs though!

All has gone well and we are currently in our 2 week wait. It makes for a long two weeks. We find out results by 8/28/13!

8/28/13 - Results: Negative Blood Test.
